Where did all the little squatches go?! Oh, that’s right! They all went back to school. When I was a young squatch, I went to school but instead of going to a building or a house, my classroom was the forest. My classmates were many different forest creatures which made for a wonderfully squatchy learning experience. One fun fact that I learned from observing my forest classmates is that squirrels forget where they hid their acorns. Because they forget where they hid their acorns, the squirrels end up planting trees! It’s amazing that a small creature can have a big impact on the forest. Thank you to all the squirrels for planting so many trees.
I tend to hide from people most of the time but now I need to forage food for the upcoming winter season. My first stop for food is my local forest which is how you might catch a glimpse of me this fall. For the human foragers who read this, you must visit the Ossipee Public Library first to find books about what is safe for humans to eat from the forest. My book recommendation for non-squatch foraging is The Grizzly Forager's Guide to Family Foraging by John Shahabeddin. My favorite foraged foods include berries and mushrooms. Oh yes, and acorns!! Squirrels aren’t the only ones who enjoy acorns. Happy foraging from the Ossipee Sasquatch.
